New Autodesk headquarters: A success story

THE PROJECT

A complex of offices located in the heart of Barcelona’s largest and most important urban transformation project, 22@Barcelona, has been the place selected by the world’s leading design, engineering, and entertainment software company Autodesk for its headquarters in Spain.

The project to enable the more than 2,000 square meters has been developed in several phases and is based on the guidelines established to achieve two main objectives: to convert the new headquarters into a support for the elements that make up the Autodesk brand and to be a workspace designed for people.

Given the characteristics of the project and the demanding investment and time constraints, a model was required that would allow close collaboration and trust between all participants. The commission that Cador received in the last quarter of 2015 integrated Design, Bidding, and Construction under the OBC modality, an open-book contract. For the functional program, design, and technical management of the same, Cador recruited the collaboration of a team of professionals of the utmost confidence, the Barcelona-based studio RMGRAU.

THE RESULT

The renovation of the floors has transformed a functional office building with features in accordance with current uses into a useful container bathed in light and color, where work, communication, and rest spaces are interconnected without visual barriers other than the sea and the mountains.

workspaces for meetings

An office to communicate: It is true that there are hardly any studies that deal with the role that workspaces play in the formation of a company’s brand image. However, it seems commonly accepted that an adequate and imaginative relationship between decoration, lighting, the use of technology, signage, and the development of spaces that serve the organization’s objectives, far from a mere use as a showcase, evoke and promote among visitors and users sensations linked to a way of understanding the company and its connection with the society that welcomes it.

offices

An office for people: A study commissioned by Steelcase, the world’s leading manufacturer of office furniture, says very clearly that to enhance worker motivation: “space matters a lot.” Indeed, a survey of more than 10,000 employees from 14 countries around the world shows a close relationship between demotivation and dissatisfaction with their environment. (69% of workers who are not fully engaged are the most dissatisfied with their environment)

Autodesk knows this and has created a space that fosters the well-being of its employees and relates them, in their daily experience, to the purpose of the company.

A space to create, grow, and live

space to create

A space to communicate, share, and live

space to communicate

A space to banish tension and, again, live
