Whether the office accommodates 20 or 80 people, a modern, functional, ergonomic, and high-quality office is attractive to employees, clients, and future talent. We have already mentioned in previous blog posts, such as in “7 tips to build loyalty with young talent in your company”, that workspaces have become a key factor for attracting and retaining millennial talent, valued as much as the salary offer.
BUT WHAT IS CONSIDERED A MODERN OFFICE TODAY?
Open spaces
There is nothing better than an open office without offices or walls to encourage communication, teamwork, camaraderie, and even a positive attitude among employees. In flexible offices, there is a greater exchange of ideas, more collaboration, and easier discovery of workers’ skills to explore. Designing a workspace thinking about the needs of the teams and the necessary rooms for them to carry out their tasks is the starting point.
Respect Silence
One of the main drawbacks raised by employees who work in open offices is the noise and distractions that may arise.
This innovative space design does not convince those jobs that need full concentration or privacy to perform their task. But the solution is simple, just create soundproof rooms where there are no interruptions and are isolated from noise. An “open space” office must have different spaces such as meeting rooms, video conference room, brainstorming room…

Extras and emotional salary
Being a pet-friendly office, offering a good canteen, parking space, enabling a nursery for employees’ children, creating a small gym (there are even companies like Google that offer physiotherapy and hairdressing services) are extras that build employee loyalty. There are surveys where employees declare that they prefer additional benefits of this type in their companies to a salary increase. Factors such as the location of the workplace and its connections with means of transport are as decisive as the economic offer.
Sustainability and CSR
Energy efficiency, recycling, the use of natural resources… Companies are starting to establish corporate social responsibility policies that contribute to social progress and environmental care.
When designing an office, you have to look for maximum sustainability, and if possible, within a “green building”. Employees consider ecological policies very valuable and feel proud of it. This influences the feeling of belonging to the company, and therefore, in their productivity and involvement.
Taking these factors into account, is your office modern?
