Lockers in a flexible office: indispensable elements

Following the latest trends in office models, individual workstations are tending to disappear to make way for collaborative spaces. Therefore, lockers have become an indispensable element for workers within the most flexible offices.

The Open Space model, where there are no assigned workstations, is becoming increasingly widespread. Employees arrive at the office and sit in one of the free spots, which are likely to be different chairs and tables than those available the day before. This system forces workers to not be able to leave anything on the tables when they go home. Therefore, all those office supplies such as notebooks, pens, documents, or even the computer mouse must be stored in lockers until the next day.

These lockers are assigned to each employee and are usually located at the entrance of the workplace. Workers store their belongings there to collect them each day and move them to the job they choose according to the needs of the task to be performed (meeting room, individual post, video conference room…). To facilitate the movement of office materials, rolling drawers are also often offered, which function as movable cabinets.

More and more companies are offering their employees the possibility of teleworking 1 or 2 days a week, which alters their “in-person order” as not all workers coincide at the same time in the office. For this reason, there will always be an empty table occupying a surface that could be used for another purpose.

For example, if a department is made up of 25 people but six of them telework from home each day, it will be more than enough to have 20 tables, 20 chairs and 25 lockers. As the positions are not assigned, all employees will find a place to settle freely on the day they come to work at the office.

But what size should the lockers be?

The activity of the company, and even its departments, will limit this decision depending on their needs. If the company does not allow laptops to be taken out of the office, the lockers must be prepared to store the computer equipment there. The same applies when working with a large volume of paper or other larger objects.

Keep in mind that the lockers in an office, in addition to being work material, employees will also store their personal belongings, and even the tupper with their daily menu.

There is a wide range of fixed and rolling drawers that adapt to each office model and in CADOR we can advise you to choose the options that best fit your office model and the needs of your employees.
